Trustees raise tuition 3.9 percentPosted Friday, February 10 2006 02:44:29 pm
Tuition will increase four percent for incoming freshman in the fall, the Board of Trustees decided on Friday. The increase is the lowest in two decades. Incoming freshmen will pay $37,790 each year, a 3.9 percent increase from last year. Housing and food allowance costs will increase 5.1 percent to $11,000, making the total GW experience for the class of 2010 cost $48,790 a year. President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg said at Friday’s Board of Trustees meeting that the low increase is due to smart budgeting and an increased endowment. He said the increase will “help us to be more competitive.” Tuition for rising seniors will also increase 3.9 percent to $33,590 for the 2006-07 academic year. The class of 2007 is the last class that does not have fixed tuition. Other tuition increases include a 5.2 percent hike for law students. Full-time law students will pay $36,310 next year. Graduate students in the School of Public Health and Health Services graduate programs will see a 5.5 percent increase. Incoming M.D. students will have a 4 percent increase, while second, third, and fourth year medical students will have a 3 percent increase. Generally, all other graduate programs will see a 5 percent increase as well. UPDATE from the NewsBlog:According to Tracy Schario, director of media relations, the class of 2007, which is the last group of students paying a new rate every year, began GW at the cost of $29,350 for the 2003-04 acadmemic year. |
